Mayor’s Award

In 2012, the Groundswell Peer Advocates won a ‘Team London’ Mayor’s Award for Volunteering. Some peers used their progression bursary to get ‘suited and booted’ for the prestigious event at City Hall.

At the time only two tranches of peers had been trained and it felt like an important moment that their work had been recognised. Seven of the eight peers who received the Award were employed within a year.

The Award helped Groundswell realise that Homeless Health Peer Advocacy had the potential to become a much more impactful intervention as the Saving Lives, Saving Money report found a few years later.
